Description
This is a barn located approximately 100 metres northeast of Golding, dating from the 15th or 16th century, with some alterations made in the late 19th century. The barn features a weatherboarded timber frame built using cruck construction, resting on a brick and rubble plinth, with red brick gable ends and a plain tile roof. It consists of five framed bays, with former threshing floors located in the second and fourth bays. The east end has 19th-century brick buttresses at the plinth, and there are 20th-century roof lights added. The framing includes square panels that extend from the sole-plate to the wall-plate. Each side of the barn has two pairs of large opposed boarded doors, along with a boarded loft door and vents in each gable end.
Inside, there are four full cruck trusses of the Alcock apex-type B, which include collars and likely 18th-century tension braces and low tie beams for the storage bays. The outer trusses have been truncated above their collars, and there are single purlins supporting the roof.
