Description

Decker Hill, now functioning as a Club House, is a house built around 1810. It features a stucco exterior and a hipped slate roof, standing two storeys tall. The design showcases Greek Revival style elements, including a first-floor cill band, a deep frieze, and a pronounced eaves cornice supported by paired brackets. The building has a symmetrical 2:1:2 bay arrangement, with giant reeded pilaster strips flanking each pair of outer bays. The recessed central bay is highlighted by two giant unfluted ashlar Ionic columns. The windows are fitted with glazing-bar sashes.

The facade includes three steps leading up, flanked by later additions of lions, and five steps leading to a pair of central three-panelled doors, which are framed by a reeded architrave, side lights, and a segmental radial fanlight above. The left-hand end elevation has a six-bay design with blind boxes for the ground floor sashes, while the right-hand end features a two-storey bow on the left and a projecting two-storey square bay on the right with chamfered panelled corners.

Inside, there is a central hall with an oval top light and a two-flight dog-leg staircase that has an open string and a wrought iron balustrade adorned with anthemion ornament. The interior also includes panelled doors and moulded cornices and soffits throughout.

Adjoining to the west is a two-storey service block. To the east, there is an entrance courtyard surrounded by low ashlar walls topped with urns and square gate piers with cornices. The landscaped grounds include a temple and entrance lodges, and the area is now part of a golf course.
