Description

Two barns stand approximately 40 metres north of Henbarns Farmhouse. The earlier barn dates from the mid-17th century and the later from the late 17th century, with subsequent alterations. The mid-17th century barn is timber-framed with iron cladding over weatherboarding on the front, while the later barn has a timber frame with painted brick infill. Both barns have a rubble stone plinth and corrugated iron roofs, with the later barn having a lower roofline.

Inside the mid-17th century barn, the timber framing is visible and consists of vertical posts with long, straight, and curving tension braces. The later barn has square framing panels, three from the cill to the wall plate, also with long, straight tension braces. It features eaves hatches to the left and right of centre. The mid-17th century barn has a central, full-height threshing entrance with opposing doors.

The mid-17th century barn has a single-purlin roof in three bays, supported by raking struts from tie beams to principal rafters. The later barn has a similar roof, but in four bays. The rear of the later barn was largely rebuilt in the 20th century, and it is included in the listing for group value.
