Description
Wytheford Hall is a farmhouse dating from around 1840, possibly incorporating an earlier core, with late 20th century alterations at the rear. It is constructed of red brick with grey sandstone ashlar dressings and features a hipped slate roof. The building has a T-plan layout and stands two storeys high, with a wing that also has two storeys and an attic. It has a stone plinth and deeply overhanging eaves with a band. There are integral lateral brick stacks at the rear and an external brick end stack on the rear wing.
The southwest front consists of two bays, one bay, and two bays, featuring glazing bar sashes that were replaced with facsimiles in the late 20th century. These windows have stone cills and slightly segmental heads. The central entrance has a pair of half-glazed panelled doors framed by a moulded architrave, leading to an ashlar Tuscan porch with columns in antis and an open triangular pediment, with brick returns that have a moulded cornice. The right-hand return front has two bays with blind windows, while the left-hand return front has one bay with a first-floor blind window. The rear wing has three bays.
Inside, the hall retains complete early 19th century fittings, including a central three-flight rectangular cantilevered stone staircase with an open string, single-fluted stick balusters (two per tread), a plain handrail, and a curtail with a columnular newel. The entrance hall and first-floor landing feature a dentil cornice. The right-hand ground-floor front room has an early 19th century fireplace, and both ground-floor front rooms have moulded cornices and soffits with a foliage trail and corner paterae. The doors have six raised and fielded panels with reeded architraves and corner paterae, and there are panelled window shutters. The attic and back staircases are designed in the Chinese Chippendale style.
