Tithe Barn Cottage

Tithe Barn Cottage is a building that was originally a barn and has since been converted into two houses, now functioning as one. It is dated 1607 and features alterations and additions from the mid- to late 19th century. The structure is timber framed with red brick nogging, and it includes dressed red sandstone and red brick additions. The roof is made of stone slate, with a catslide over a partial outshut at the rear. The building has an L-plan layout with three framed bays and a 19th-century wing to the west. It stands two storeys tall with a gable-lit attic and has a brick ridge stack at the rear wing.

On the east front, there are four windows on the first floor, which consist of one-, two-, and three-light 20th-century metal casements. Between the first and second windows from the left, there is a 20th-century boarded door. A full-height porch on the north side features a jettied gable supported by likely restored shaped brackets and a bressumer that is dated "JULY 9 SF NK 1607." The porch also has a 20th-century boarded door with an ogee head. Much of the carved detail, especially in the porch, appears to be of late 19th-century design, indicating that it may be new or replacing earlier timbers.

The interior has not been inspected but is expected to be of interest.
