Description

Number 75-83 (Odd) and attached railings are a row of houses built in the early 19th century. They are constructed of brick and feature a shallow pitch Welsh slate roof, with two brick double ridge stacks and one end stack. The buildings have a five-unit, double-depth plan and rise three storeys above basements, presenting an eight-window range. Most windows are 6/6 sashes with arched heads set under gauged brick flat arches, except for the far left window, which has a segmental arch. The upper floors have wider 4/4 sashes in similar settings, except for the far left, which features a 3/3 sash. Brick corbels support the eaves.

The ground floor displays six segmental arches beneath a stone band, with the second and fifth arches from the right forming stuccoed entrances. These entrances feature pairs of panelled, part-glazed doors topped with swagged fanlights. The remaining arches have recesses below, containing 8/8 round-headed sashes set in brick panels with segmental arches. The left unit, separated by a pilaster, includes a canted bay window with a combination of 1/1, 3/3, and 1/1 sashes, and to the right, there is a half-glazed door with fielded panels and an overlight, also under a segmental arch. The stuccoed basements have windows recessed under round-headed arches. The rear elevation is similar and features twin rear entrances beneath porches with slate roofs.

The property is complemented by 19th-century cast-iron railings with finials and mace-headed pillars, which extend along the entire front from No. 73 to attach to No. 85. These railings include entrance gates and lengths that divide the frontages of Nos. 73/75, 75/77, 79/81, and 83/85. The main section of the railings is set on a base of yellow brick with chamfered coping and stone heads and post-sockets.
