Description

Lower Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the late 16th or 17th century, with alterations and additions made in the mid to late 19th century. The building is timber framed, having been refaced or partly rebuilt, and extended in red brick, topped with plain tile roofs. It features a baffle-entry hall range with a projecting gabled cross-wing to the left, and later additions to the right and at the rear. The farmhouse has two storeys and a gable-lit attic.

On the right side, there is a dentil brick eaves cornice, and a large central brick ridge stack with shafting and a moulded oversailing top. The hall range includes a 20th-century three-light casement on the first floor and a ground-floor segmental-headed four-light casement to the right. There is a blocked door that has been converted into a window in the angle of the cross-wing to the left, which features a 20th-century lean-to porch.

The cross-wing has a segmental-headed 19th-century three-light wooden attic casement, two first-floor segmental-headed casements (a 20th-century three-light to the left and a 19th-century two-light to the right), and a ground-floor 20th-century segmental-headed three-light casement to the left, along with a small 20th-century casement to the right. The right-hand gable end reveals a double collar and tie-beam truss with queen struts and V-struts. There is a 19th-century addition to the right featuring a three-light segmental-headed casement to the left, and a two-storey 19th-century wing at the rear with an integral brick end stack and main entrance. The interior has not been inspected but is likely to be of interest.
