Description
The gazebo and retaining walls of the ornamental basin, located approximately 80 metres south of Ruckley Grange, were built around 1904 by Sir Ernest George and Yates.
The gazebo is constructed from coursed and squared sandstone with ashlar dressings and features an ogee copper roof topped with a finial. It has a square plan and is designed in the Neo-Jacobean style, standing at one storey. Each face of the gazebo is adorned with Doric pilasters, a frieze, and a cornice, flanking central round-arched openings that include continuous impost moulding, a moulded architrave, and a keystone. There are paired small-paned glazed doors on the east and west sides, an arched casement on the south side, and an open arch on the north side that leads to steps descending into a pool. The interior includes dado panelling.
The pool, made of sandstone ashlar, has a cruciform plan with rounded ends and is situated to the north of the gazebo. It measures approximately 37 metres long and 12 metres wide, featuring dwarf walls with moulded coping and a central fountain.
