Description
85 and 86 Wyle Cop is a former shop that was originally a dwelling, dating from the late 16th century and around 1640, with alterations made in the late 19th century. The building is timber-framed, featuring later brick nogging and a plain tiled roof. It has decorative framing with a lozenge pattern in square panels and a close-studded band above the first floor. The structure is two storeys tall, with an attic added around 1640, and has a two-window range. The late 19th-century shop front includes continuous windows with traceried glazing on either side of a central traceried door, as well as an additional door at the corner leading to Milk Street. A continuous plain fascia runs across both facades. The upper windows are oriel bays with transoms and leaded lights. Two gabled dormers break the eaves, featuring elaborate fretted barge-boards with finials. There is a small oriel window in the gable facing Milk Street, and a partial rear wing extends towards Milk Street.
