Description
The dovecote located to the rear of Whitehall was built around 1580. It is constructed from red and blue brick and features a plain tiled roof adorned with scalloped bands. At the top, there is a timbered cupola with leaded lights and an ogee lead cap topped with a weather vane. The structure is octagonal in shape and has a single low entrance with a 4-centred stone lintel. Inside, the walls are lined with nesting holes and there is a central wooden potence. The floor is cobbled. This dovecote was built around the same time as the main building of Whitehall, which was constructed by Richard Prince between 1578 and 1582.
