Description

SO 95 NW CARDINGTON C.P. -

5/3 Bowman Hill Farmhouse

GV II

Farmhouse. Mid- to late C17 with early C19 alterations. Roughly squared and coursed grey sandstone rubble, partly rebuilt in red brick; plain tile roof. L-shaped baffle-entry plan. 2 storeys and attic over basement. South-east (garden) front: central gabled eaves dormer with 2-light leaded casement; central brick ridge stack. 2-window front; glazing bar sashes, those on first floor with exposed flush boxes; pair of basement windows. Stone lean-to to left with steps up to altered (formerly round-arched)opening ; round archway and parapet at rear. 2 tall gabled wings to north-west (entrance front), that in centre with 4-panelled door and that to left containing staircase (see altered window). Interior: C17 segmental-arched fireplace; 2 early C19 segmental-arched recesses and early C19 panelled internal window shutters. It is possible that the large panel of brick rebuilding in the garden front replaced earlier timber framing.
