Description
Upper Farmhouse is an early 18th-century farmhouse constructed from roughly dressed grey sandstone with a plain tile roof. It has an L-shaped plan and stands two storeys tall with a gable-lit attic. The building features a plinth and parapeted gable ends, which are topped with stone copings and moulded kneelers, along with integral brick end stacks. The façade consists of five bays, showcasing mid- to late 19th-century wooden cross casements that have moulded stone cills and segmental heads, adorned with alternating light and dark stone voussoirs. The central entrance includes a 20th-century glazed door with a three-part rectangular overlight, and there is a late 20th-century lean-to stone porch with a four-panelled 20th-century door.
Inside, the farmhouse contains a central 18th-century staircase that divides at the half-landing, featuring a closed string, widely spaced turned balusters, a moulded handrail, and square newel posts with beaded corners and caps. The left-hand ground-floor room includes an 18th-century segmental-arched stone fireplace, and there are 18th-century boarded and panelled doors throughout the interior.
