Description
The Fold is a farmhouse that has been converted into a house. It dates from the mid-18th century and has undergone alterations and additions in the mid- to late-19th century. The building is constructed from thinly squared and coursed grey sandstone, with 19th-century planted timbers and pebbledashed infill beneath the eaves. It has an L-shaped plan, is two storeys high with an attic, and features a two-storey rear wing.
The façade includes a plinth and plat band, with a central 19th-century gabled semi-dormer that has a two-light wooden casement and a finial. There are integral brick stacks at the right end and an external brick stack at the rear wing. The front has two windows, with two- and three-light wooden casements that have depressed relieving arches. To the left, there is a half-glazed door with a gabled porch. At the rear, there is a one-storey lean-to in the angle. The interior has not been inspected. The planted timbers likely indicate the height to which the eaves were raised in the 19th century. This house is prominently located in the village, near Shoreham and the former Free School.
