Description
No. 20, also known as Shoreham, is a pair of cottages that have been combined into one dwelling. They date from the early 18th century, with a later section dated 1810. The building is rendered over coursed sandstone rubble and features plain tile roofs.
The left-hand part of the cottage is one storey with an attic, showcasing two gabled eaves dormers that contain 2-light metal casements. There is a large external end stack on the left side. The front has two windows, both with 2-light wooden casements, and a 20th-century panelled door located off-centre to the left. At the rear, there is a one-storey outbuilding with an integral brick end stack.
The right-hand part of the cottage is two storeys high, with bracketed eaves and an external stone end stack on the right, topped with brick. The first floor features a central 20th-century 3-light wooden casement, while the ground floor has a 20th-century three-light wooden casement to the right and a panelled door to the left.
Inside the left-hand part, there are chamfered spine beams and a large open fireplace. This house is situated in a prominent position in the village, close to The Fold and the former Free School.
