Description
Number 7 in Gretton is a cottage from the 18th century, likely incorporating parts from the 17th century. It features a rendered timber frame that has been largely rebuilt with roughly coursed grey sandstone rubble, topped with a plain tile roof. The cottage has a one-room plan and consists of one storey with a gable-lit attic. There is an integral dressed sandstone stack on the north-west side, which has projecting courses at the top and weathering at the base.
On the south-west front, there is a small two-light wooden casement window to the left and a boarded door to the right. Each gable end has a small two-light wooden attic casement. To the right, there is a lean-to addition made of rubblestone, which includes a small integral stack and a two-light wooden-framed metal casement window at the front.
Inside, the cottage has one ground-floor room and two attic rooms, featuring an open fireplace with a range and a winder staircase located between the stack and the north-east wall. This building is a complete example of a small one-unit cottage.
