Description
Rodney House, formerly known as No.2 Sydney Court, is a house dating from the early 18th century that is now used as offices. It is constructed of brick and has a Welsh slate roof. The building stands three storeys high and features a three-window range on its main northwest elevation, which includes casement windows on the lower floor that have been inserted or enlarged, and four-pane sash windows above. There are two gabled dormers in the roof.
The side elevation facing Castle Court shows remnants of a stone plinth and a blocked doorway. An added porch provides access to No.14. The gabled wing on the courtyard side has irregular window placement and a doorway accessed by steps. The courtyard elevation features a doorway at the angle of the wing and a single window in the main range, all within a 19th-century added porch that has a round-arched doorway flanked by stuccoed pilasters. Above this, there are four-pane sash windows. The rear elevation of the wing facing Castle Court includes a 12-pane sash window on both the ground and first floors, along with inserted sash windows in the attic. Continuous brick string courses are present throughout the building.
