Description

HODNET C.P. PEPLOW SJ 62 SW 9/83 Kitchen garden walls - and adjoining former barn approx. 70 metres to north- east of Peplow Hall

GV II

Kitchen garden, walls and adjoining former barn. Circa 1725 with some late C19 alterations. Red brick walls with sandstone coping. Walled enclosure with wide semi-circular curved end to north-east. Higher curved section to north-east with ramps up, and plinth and buttresses to outside. External brick stack to south-east with tall late C19 shaft. Short section of wall adjoining to south-east with lean-to greenhouse to south- west and brick end piers with stone globe finials. Gateway in south-east side with C19 cast-iron gate and brick piers with stone globe finials. Former barn incorporated in south-west length: red brick with plain tile roof. Plat band, C19 brick ridge stack and external brick lateral stack to south-west. Blocked Gothic window in gable end. Blocked cart entrance and inserted C19 windows to south-west. These kitchen garden walls are particularly notable for their plan form.
