Description

The kitchen garden walls and adjoining former barn, located approximately 70 meters northeast of Peplow Hall, date from around 1725, with some alterations from the late 19th century. The walls are made of red brick and feature sandstone coping. The walled enclosure has a wide semi-circular curved end to the northeast, with a higher curved section that includes ramps leading up, as well as a plinth and buttresses on the outside. There is an external brick stack on the southeast side with a tall late 19th-century shaft. A short section of wall to the southeast connects to a lean-to greenhouse on the southwest, along with brick end piers topped with stone globe finials. The gateway on the southeast side includes a 19th-century cast-iron gate and brick piers with stone globe finials. The former barn, which is part of the southwest length, is constructed of red brick and has a plain tile roof, featuring a plat band, a 19th-century brick ridge stack, and an external brick lateral stack on the southwest. There is a blocked Gothic window in the gable end, a blocked cart entrance, and inserted 19th-century windows on the southwest side. The kitchen garden walls are particularly notable for their unique plan form.
