Description
This barn, located 25 yards northwest of Upper Lower House Farmhouse, dates from the 16th or 17th century. It is constructed from coursed dry stone rubble with a timber frame, featuring weather-boards and a corrugated iron roof. The barn has four bays, with an entrance consisting of a full-height double door beneath a raking top, positioned at the second bay from the left. To the right, there is a one-bay extension made of rubble, which includes a pitching door at the gable end. Inside, the barn contains three pairs of cruck blades and two rows of purlins. The lower collar survives on the center blades but has been altered, while the outer pairs of crucks are more cranked. The frame is two panels high and constructed with very heavy beams measuring approximately 8 inches by 4 inches.
