Description

Over Court is a house that was originally used as the master's house for a school, with an attached school built in the 19th century. The building likely dates from the 17th century, with some alterations and extensions made in the late 19th century. It is constructed of coursed sandstone rubble and features crested plain tiled roofs with two ridge stacks.

The layout is rectangular, oriented roughly east to west, with the 17th-century section on the west and a lower 19th-century section added to the east. The west part has one storey and an attic, featuring three windows under hood-moulds, each with two lights divided by mullions—two windows are located to the left and one to the right of a gabled porch that has an entry on its west side. There are also 2-light casements, which are mullioned, on the east gable. A later 19th-century canted mullioned bay window is present on the west gable.

The east part includes a lean-to on the road frontage that connects at the eaves, creating an almost catslide appearance. The east gable, likely part of the 19th-century school room, features a 3-light mullioned window under a hood-mould. The entrance is located under the lean-to. The walls surrounding the property are about six feet high, blocking off the west part and its porch from the roadside, and they break at square piers topped with pineapple finials in front of the east part.
