Description
This granary and wainhouse, located about 45 yards north-west of New House Farmhouse, dates from around 1811, as indicated by a plaque on the south-west gable. The structure is built from roughly coursed sandstone rubble and weatherboards, topped with a corrugated iron roof. It consists of three bays and is aligned roughly north-east to south-west, with two levels.
The south-east elevation features stone steps leading up to a ledged door positioned to the right of the center on the first floor. The north-east gable is weatherboarded and has an open ground floor designed for carts. The south-west gable includes a central segmentally-headed opening, which is flanked by three rows of nesting ledges and holes for pigeons.
Inside, there is a pegged king-post roof with thickened tops and bottoms on the king-posts, along with unpegged raking struts that connect cambered ties to the principal rafters. This building is included as a dated example of its type. New House Farmhouse itself is not part of this listing.
