Description
The granary, located about 30 yards west of the Old Furnace, is a Grade II listed building that incorporates remains of a furnace. A tablet on the structure indicates that this furnace was rebuilt by William Rea in 1720. The granary is constructed from roughly squared sandstone rubble and features roofs made of Welsh slate and corrugated iron. It has a rectangular plan aligned north to south and consists of two parts. The southern part has three storeys, while the northern part has a cellar and two storeys due to the rising ground.
The east elevation of the southern part includes three windows with segmental heads, primarily 2-light casements. The northern part has four windows, which are 3-light casements, and features a large segmental archway that rises from the cellar to the level of the top floor beneath the two left-hand windows. To the right of the archway, there is an entry with a segmental head. The south elevation has a tallet staircase leading to the top floor of the granary, with steps under the staircase that lead longitudinally to the first floor.
