Description
The summerhouse, located about 50 yards south-east of The Grange, is likely from the late 18th century or early 19th century, with some fragments dating back to the 12th and 13th centuries. It is constructed from roughly coursed sandstone rubble and sandstone ashlar, topped with a pyramidical stone slate roof featuring a wrought-iron weathervane. The building has a square plan.
On the west elevation, there is a central entry with a re-set four-centred head and re-set imposts from the 12th century, made from fragments of beaded lozenges. The entrance features a nine-paned oak door beneath a flat canopy supported by brackets. Three stone steps lead up to the door, which is flanked by shafts. To the right, there are three attached shafts, with the centre one displaying a keel moulding, all topped with circular capitals. To the left, there is a single shaft set in a pilaster with moulded sides. Inside, the summerhouse contains an early 19th-century cast-iron fireplace with a raised basket.
