Description
The cider mill, located about 5 yards north of Great Parton Farmhouse, is a building that likely dates from the early 18th century, with some alterations made in the mid-19th century. It is part timber-framed with brick infill and some weatherboarding on a rubble base, and part rubble with a corrugated asbestos roof. The structure consists of three bays aligned east to west and has two levels.
The timber framing features three panels from the sill to the wall-plate, long straight braces across the upper corners, and a collar and tie-beam truss at the west end, which includes a central strut and small raking struts across the lower corners. On the main south elevation, there is a shuttered ground floor window, two loft openings, a door, and a stable door.
Adjoining the north elevation is a continuous lean-to rubble outshut with a catslide roof, which has two ventilation slits in its north wall. The interior of the building has had the mill and press removed. The cider mill is situated next to Great Parton Farmhouse, providing a screen from the main road, and is included for its group value.
