Description

The rear wing of Vaga House is a barn, dating to the 17th and 18th centuries, and now incorporated into a dwelling. The structure is timber-framed with brick facing, the gable being of 18th-century brick. It has a 20th-century plain tile roof and 20th-century brick stacks, one to the southwest and one to the north. The east front, dating from the 18th century, features 6/6 and paired 6/6 sash windows. There is also a tripartite 19th-century window with 4/4:6/6:4/4 sashes, and a 19th-century 6-panel door beneath a segmental arch. The left returned side has a casement window and a 6/6 sash window, both under segmental arches, set into 18th-century brickwork. The interior is accessed from the main staircase of Vaga House. On the first floor, there is an unhung 4-panel door and a panelled overlight. The ground floor has a part-glazed panelled door with an 18th-century overlight, a flagstone floor, a clerestory light, a 19th-century 4-panel door and overlight, two plank doors, an early 20th-century glazed wall unit and cupboards, two unhung 4-panel doors, one plank door, and one 2-panel door.
