Description

Townsend Court comprises a group of cottages dating from the 17th and 18th centuries, which were restored and extended in the 20th century. The construction is primarily painted brick and rubble with a plain tile roof featuring a gable on the right-hand side. The cottages are single-storey with an attic. The right-hand side entrance features a 20th-century plank door positioned within an earlier altered frame. It is flanked by 20th-century cross-windows to the left and a 20th-century two-light casement window above. To the left of the entrance are two further 20th-century two-light casement windows, with a restored 20th-century box dormer above. The returned right-hand side of the building displays timber-frame construction with rendered panels, alongside various 20th-century stacks, dormers, windows, and entrances. The interiors were not inspected. It is believed that the complex originally served as a stable block for Townsend House.
