Description

Pigeon Farmhouse is a farmhouse that dates from the late 16th century or early 17th century, with a remodel in the early 18th century and further additions made in the mid to late 19th century. The building has a timber-framed core with some wattle-and-daub infill, and the south front has been refaced in brick from the 18th century, while the remainder is faced with sandstone rubble. The roof is partly hipped and covered with concrete tiles. Originally an L-plan house facing south, it has a wing extending to the north at the east end, with later additions in the angle of the L. The central entrance is located on the south front, with a stack at the west end and an axial stack east of the center, as well as a gable-end stack with a bread oven to the north. The farmhouse has two storeys, a cellar, and an attic. The south front has been remodeled and features a string course, with 2:3:2 glazing bar sash windows, a central bay with a gable above, and an oculus in the gable, along with raised verges. The central entrance includes a porch and a panelled door. Inside, the property retains chamfered ceiling beams with ogee stops, and the south-east room is lined with 18th-century panelling, while the upper south-east room has fragments of reused 17th-century panelling. Square-panelled framing is revealed in the interior.
