Description

Church Farmhouse is a 17th-century farmhouse with an 18th-century addition, originally comprising a range of three timber-framed bays aligned north/south, to which a later range aligned east/west was adjoined at the north end. The structure has wattle-and-daub infill between the timber framing, a sandstone plinth, and a tiled roof. The 18th-century wing is constructed of coursed and dressed sandstone. The original central entrance was located on the north front, while the 18th-century wing has an entrance on its north face, west of centre. Stacks have been removed. The farmhouse is two storeys high. The north front of the 18th-century wing has three blocked openings. The framing of the 17th-century wing remains largely complete, featuring four square panels from sill to wall-plate. The farmhouse is partially obscured by a 20th-century steel-framed outbuilding to the east and a later 19th-century building with rectangular hop kilns to the west, which are not considered of special interest.
