Description

The Priory Church of St Peter and St Paul is a historic church located in Leominster, originally built in the 12th, 13th, and 14th centuries. Constructed from ashlar sandstone and topped with lead roofs, it serves as a parish church today. The church features a Norman priory section to the north, which includes a west tower, and a 19th-century north aisle. The central part of the church is from the 13th century, while the south aisle, complete with a south-west porch, dates to the 14th century.

The exterior of the church includes a north front with leaded clerestory lights set under semicircular arches between pilaster buttresses, above a pentice-roofed aisle featuring five lancet windows and four timber dormers. The tower has two tiers of quatrefoil-headed mullion lights, blind arcading at the parapet, and finials adorned with ballflower ornamentation. The ornate west doorway is decorated with dogtooth mouldings on arches supported by carved capitals. The west front showcases a buttressed window with intricate tracery and a decorated window on the south aisle. The south front is notable for five 4-light decorated windows with ballflower ornamentation, buttresses supporting a parapet with trefoil-headed balustrading, and a porch featuring moulded pointed arches on clustered colonnettes, along with a panelled ceiling. The east front includes a 14th-century east window and a south aisle window with ballflower ornamentation, alongside a plain light in the north aisle under a moulded arch on colonnettes.

Inside the church, there is an organ-case dated 1739, wall paintings, and stained glass by Kempe.
