Description
Reading Room Cottage and Lower Farmhouse is a 17th-century farmhouse that was restored in the late 20th century. It features a timber frame with painted brick infill set on a rubble plinth, topped with a machine tile roof. The building has an L-shaped plan, with a cross-wing extending to the east and another range to the north. A centrally placed chimney stack is located in the northern range. The north-facing front, which faces the street, is one storey high with an attic that is illuminated by a flat-roofed dormer in the hipped gable end. On the ground floor, there are two single-light casements to the left, and the entrance is centrally located, featuring a gabled tiled canopy and a 20th-century ledged and boarded door. The framing consists of three square panels, with the gable of the cross-wing supported by three struts to the collar and a king strut above.
