Description
The Church of St James is a parish church built in 1888 by Nicholson and Son. It is constructed from dressed and coursed sandstone rubble with ashlar dressings and features a slate roof. The church includes a three-bay nave, a south porch, a chancel, and an apse with a north vestry. The nave has raised verges and a moulded cornice, with buttressing at both the west and east ends. There are two lancet windows with moulded surrounds, and another window with two trefoil-headed lights and a central trefoil located to the right of the gabled porch, which also has buttressing and decorative head motifs. A plain bell-cote is situated at the west end. The chancel features a half-octagonal plan apse and a similar lancet window with a moulded surround. Inside, the church retains contemporary fittings, including fine stained glass windows.
