Description
The gateway and curtain wall, dating from the late 18th century, are constructed from coursed rubble. The wall features a central entrance aligned north/south, which returns to the east at the north end, incorporating a quadrant bastion in the corner. This section of the wall ends with a square tower. At the south end, the wall returns to the south-east and is finished with a diamond-plan tower. The main wall is crenellated and has a two-centred arch with two chamfered orders at the entrance, flanked by two loops on each side. The quadrant and return wall to the right have a plain parapet. The tower is topped with a corbelled crenellated parapet and has a cross-loop below. The battered plinth features a roll moulding, and the other tower is similarly detailed. Croft Castle is a property in the care of the National Trust.
