Description

Chauffeur's house, originally a stable block and power-house, is located about 50 yards northeast of Brand Lodge. It was built around 1910 and extended around 1950 by architect Ernest Newton. The building features roughcast walls and hipped Westmorland slate roofs, with three brick stacks on the ridges. It has a 'U' plan layout on a sloping site, enlarged from an 'L' plan due to the mid-20th century extension on the left side of the front. The left side contains living accommodation, the center has garaging, and the right wing includes three stables. The structure is two storeys high in the center and left sections, and one storey in the right wing. The left side features two six-light wooden casements, while the gable above the carriage doors in the center has a nine-panel, semi-circular headed loft door, with the top six panes glazed and a beam for hoisting above it. There are also three stable doors on the left side of the right wing.
