Description
The terrace, steps, and retaining walls at Brand Lodge were likely designed according to E Newton's layout. The garden walls, made of coped Malvern granite, stand about 7 to 8 feet high and flank a lower terrace that is approximately 35 yards long, featuring a central break. Carved panels are set into the walls on either side of this break. An upper wall encloses the area in front of the house and is accessed by a four-flight stone staircase, which includes a central balustraded section leading to a parapet. A similar wall extends about 20 yards from the south front to support a pool, which drains through a mask in the center of the wall, beneath a sculpture of Ceres. Additionally, there is a curved retaining wall for the carriage sweep to the east of the house, along with a small Japanese-style wicket gate.
