Description

Coningsby Hospital, including the Chapel, is a group of almshouses built around 1614, located on the site of the chapel and hospital of the Order of St. John. The building is constructed from coursed sandstone rubble and features stone tiles, with two chimneys at the front. The chapel, which has a bellcote, is situated to the left of the central two-storey range. This range includes a central round-headed arch that leads to a courtyard, topped with a tablet and a moulded cornice supported by Ionic columns. The initials "T P C" appear above the arch and are repeated at the left side door to the chapel, which has a lancet window and a window beneath the sandstone bellcote. The ground floor features four cast-iron lattice casements.

To the right, there is a dwelling with a plank door and overlight set under a shallow arch with moulding, which is supported by a moulded hood on pilasters. A cross-window is located to the right, along with two semi-dormers with casements above. There is a chimney on the right gable. The central courtyard contains six units and provides access to the chapel, as well as an arch to the rear, which displays a coat of arms. The rear courtyard range has two chimneys, and there is a dormer on the chapel. The right courtyard range features three chimneys. The building was restored in 1984.
