Description

47, 49 and 51 Widemarsh Street are houses that have been converted into shops and offices. They date from the 18th and 19th centuries but have a core that goes back to the 16th century. The buildings are made of brick and have a slate roof.

No. 51 is three storeys high and features four late 19th-century 2/2 sash windows on the first and second floors, topped by a parapet with coping. The entrance is on the left and consists of a six-panel door in a panelled case, which is set beneath a Gothick arched fanlight. There is a 20th-century shop front to the right.

No. 49 has four late 19th-century 2/2 sash windows with moulded sills and architraves, located beneath a vermiculated band that reads "E Bayley & Sons." It also has two 3/3 sash windows in moulded architraves with keyblocks, rusticated banding on the first and second floors, and vermiculated quoins. The parapet here also has coping. To the right, there is a door with coloured leaded margin-glazing, set under an arched moulded pediment on consoles, and a 20th-century shop front to the left.

No. 47 features moulded ceiling beams on the ground floor. The rear of the buildings shows exposed box-framing, a brick stack, and wings extending to the rear. The interior includes extensive 16th-century moulded ceiling beams. The buildings were completely refurbished in 1982-1983.
