Description

Perrywood is a house dating from the 17th century, with alterations made in the mid-18th century and mid-20th century. It features a timber frame with rendered and painted brick infill on a rubble base, along with some coursed rubble walling and a slate roof. Originally, the house consisted of two framed bays aligned north to south, with a large external rubble chimney and a detached brick stack at the south end. In the 18th century, the roof was raised, and an additional bay was added to the north end, which included a smaller external rubble chimney and a rebuilt brick stack at the gable end. The building was initially a single storey with an attic but was raised to create two full storeys.

The framing originally had three panels from the sill to the wall-plate, with short straight braces in the upper corners. An additional row of panels was added when the roof was raised. The south end features a collar and tie-beam truss with exposed struts.

On the east front elevation, there are two large 2-light casement windows with transom lights and plank weatherings on the ground floor, along with a pair of smaller similar windows and another 2-light casement on the first floor. The main entrance, located in the central bay, has a half-glazed door. At the south end, there is a 20th-century lean-to addition that partly encloses the external chimney and includes three single-light casements in its east front elevation.

Inside, the house has several 17th-century panelled doors and a bread oven, which is now blocked, located in the south end chimney. The building was formerly known as Lower House.
