Description
This cottage and attached outbuilding, located at Old Grove Farm, is a Grade II listed structure. It dates from the 17th century and features a timber-framed design with plaster infill and a slate roof. The building is one storey with an attic, showcasing a large rubble end chimney with a brick stack on the left side. The front has two raking top dormers that cut through the wall-plate, and there are two irregularly spaced two-light casement windows on the ground floor. A panelled door is situated in the left bay.
The framing consists of three panels high with short struts at the upper corners, and there is a lean-to enclosing the chimney on the left side. The outbuilding is weatherboarded and has three bays, with a lower corrugated iron roof on the right side. It has two levels and plain doors to the left, along with a lean-to on the right. The trusses of the outbuilding feature raking struts above the collars, supported by two queen posts.
This building is part of a group of margin reclamation hovels in a former marsh area.
