Description

28, 30, and 30A Broad Street are houses that have been converted into shops and dwellings. They feature an early 19th-century front but have a core that dates back to the 17th century. The buildings are constructed of stucco and have a shallow-pitched Welsh slate roof, with a brick end stack at the rear.

The exterior consists of three storeys and a cellar, arranged in a three-window range. The windows include 6/6 sashes within shouldered architraves and 3/3 sashes, with quoins at the corners. The central entrance leads to a passage at the rear and features a six-panel door set in panelled reveals, topped by a 20th-century restored modillioned wood flat hood on panelled pilasters. To the left, there is a 19th-century shop front with a half-glazed panelled door, flanked by plain bow windows supported by scrolled iron brackets, beneath a curved fascia board and moulded hood. To the right, there is a plate-glass window with a cambered head, a 20th-century glazed door, and a blocked overlight. Inside the passage to the rear, there is an ogee-stop chamfered ceiling frame and a post.

The interior includes an exposed mutilated tie-beam, a panelled door, a stone stack, and a pyramid-stop chamfered ceiling beam. At the rear, there is a wing with a timber-framed gable and a plain tile roof, featuring prentice-boards and two sliding sashes with old glass. Additionally, there is a larger stucco wing with a hipped slate roof, which has a 4/8 sash and a 6/6 sash in moulded cases.
