Description
Nos 27, 27A, 29, and 29A on The Homend are 17th-century buildings that were altered in the late 18th century. They were once among the town's mansions. The structures are timber-framed and now covered in stucco, topped with a slate hipped roof and featuring a moulded eaves cornice. The buildings rise three storeys, with the top floor projecting and supported by a moulded bressummer on four brackets. There are three widely spaced windows on the top and first floors, which are sash windows with glazing bars, including two on the first floor that have side lights. The ground floor has Victorian shop fronts with a heavy dentilled cornice and fascia. No 29A, which is attached on the left, matches the others in style and is also stuccoed, rising three storeys with one window that does not have an overhang. This building is included for its group value.
