Description
Blewhenstone is a house that possibly dates from the 15th or 16th century, with extensions and alterations made in the 17th century and late 20th century. It features a timber-frame structure with plaster infill, sandstone rubble, a raised tiled roof, and stone ridge stacks. The building has a U-plan layout with a two-bay cruck range oriented roughly north/south, which was extended southwards in the 20th century. There are two arms to the east; the southern one is partly from the late 17th or early 18th century, while the northern one is from the late 20th century.
The front range, which faces west, has one storey and an attic, and includes three windows with 2-light late 20th-century casements, gabled late 20th-century dormers, and a contemporary glazed entrance porch positioned to the right of the center. The north gable displays a full pair of cruck blades. The upper part of the south-east wing has exposed timber-framing, likely from the late 17th century. Inside, there are three pairs of crucks, three chamfered segmental door heads leading from the current hall into the north ground floor room, to the rear of the hall, and a third on the first floor, indicating an earlier lower attic. The fireplace in the hall features a chamfered beam and stone chamfered jambs.
