Description

Tar's Mill Cottage is likely a 17th-century cottage, with later alterations. It is constructed from sandstone rubble with a timber frame and brick infill, and has a corrugated iron roof. An extruded sandstone end stack features a detached brick shaft and an attached baking oven. The cottage’s rectangular plan is aligned east/west, and it has one storey and an attic. The south elevation features a late 19th-century two-light casement window set within an eyebrow on the left-hand side. The ground floor has a pair of mid-20th-century oriels with plate glass glazing, and a central entrance through a glazed, early 20th-century gabled porch. The timber frame comprises three rectangular panels from the plinth to the wall-plate, with angle struts extending from the central wall-post and the right corner wall post to the wall-plate. The interior contains heavy ceiling beams.
