Description
The Orange Tree Inn is a house that has been converted into an inn. It features a late 19th-century front that covers an early 17th-century core. The ground floor is finished in stucco, while the upper part is roughcast. The building has a plain tile roof and a rendered multiple stack at the rear. It stands two storeys high, with an attic and cellar, and has a two-window range. The windows include oriels with coved underhangs and a mix of 1/1, 2/1, and 1/1 sash windows, all topped with ogee metal roofs and moulded eaves. There are two roof dormers featuring 2-light casements under moulded arches with cambered lead roofs.
To the left of the building, there is a four-panel door set within an arched stucco architrave. This area includes two etched glass lights with clerestory casements, all framed in moulded architraves with keyblocks and moulded sills, along with a moulded sillband above and rusticated quoins.
Inside, the inn features a 19th-century or earlier winder stair with some stick balusters. The attic showcases exposed purlins and bird-mouthed braces, along with what appears to be 17th-century box-framing. On the first floor, there is a chamfered ceiling beam, a two-panel door, panelling, timber-framing in the gable, and a massive stack. The ground floor has a stop-chamfered ceiling beam, 17th-century panelling with a cornice, a massive stack, a ceiling cornice, and box-framing. The cellar is stone-lined and contains some masonry.
