Description
The building known as The Brewhouse is an out-building located approximately 5 meters north of Upton Court in Upton Bishop. It dates from the 17th century, with additions from the late 18th century and early 19th century. The structure features square-panelled timber framing with brick infill and a sandstone plinth, along with later brick additions. The roof is partly tiled from the 20th century and partly covered with Welsh slate. The long range of the building is aligned east to west, with an earlier section at the eastern end. There are entrances on the north and south sides, with steps leading up to the first floor on the south side, and a central axial stack. The building has two storeys, with scattered windows on the north front; there are five irregular openings on the upper floor and eight on the lower floor, most of which have been altered. The Brewhouse was used for the storage of hops early in the 20th century.
