Description
This is a barn located immediately north of Lea House, dating from the late 17th century. It features a timber frame set on a stone plinth and is clad in weatherboarding, with the northeast end wall rebuilt in stone rubble. The roof is made of corrugated iron and has gabled ends.
The barn has a three-bay plan with a central threshing floor and a cart entrance at the front. The northwest front includes full-height double doors at the center for the cart entrance. The northeast gable end has a ventilation slit in the stone rubble wall, with a weatherboarded gable above. There is a later lean-to structure at the rear southeast and a cartshed at the southwest end.
Inside, the barn has a three-bay frame with large scantling wall-framing that is three square panels deep. Jowled posts support tie-beam trusses with queen-struts, a diagonal ridge-piece, and trenched purlins, while the common rafters are intact.
