Description

Old Colwall is a house dating from the mid-18th century. It features roughcast walls, tiled hipped roofs, and a brick end stack on the left. The layout includes a front range with two additional parallel rear ranges that match the height and depth of the front. The house is three storeys tall with six bays, and it has glazing bar sash windows. The entrance is through a porch supported by two Tuscan columns, leading to a glazed 20th-century door located in the third bay from the right.

To the left, there is a late 19th-century two-bay, two-storey extension that connects to a long single-storey service wing from the late 18th or early 19th century, which backs onto a rear courtyard. Inside, the left main front room features a repositioned mid to late 18th-century fireplace with a swagged frieze, while the right main front room has 20th-century decoration in an 18th-century style. A 20th-century open well plan balustered staircase has been installed, replacing the original staircase behind the entrance bay that was removed around 1975. A right-hand wing, likely from the late 19th century, was demolished around 1971. At the junction of the rear two ranges, there is a central large stack, which likely indicates a 17th-century portion of the house.
