Description
This listing describes a row of five monuments located about 12 yards south of the south end of the ambulatory of the Church of St Mary.
The first is a chest tomb for James Haynes, who died in 183?, crafted by "W Prosser, Dore". It is made of sandstone ashlar and features hipped capping, a deep moulded base, corner balusters, and an inscription panel set within an oval margin that has a rectangular border with fan motifs at the corners.
Next is a chest tomb for Benjamin Love Cooke, who died in 1838. This monument is also made of sandstone ashlar and has a design similar to that of James Haynes' tomb.
The third monument is a chest tomb for William Cooke, who died in 1831. It is constructed from sandstone ashlar and includes hipped capping, corner pilasters with recessed lancets, and plain rectangular side and end panels.
The fourth chest tomb is for Louisa Dean, who died in 1837. Made of sandstone ashlar, it features hipped capping, gadrooned corner balusters, and oval margins on the side panels with fan motifs at the corners.
Finally, the chest tomb for Sarah Cooke, who died in 1841, is also made of sandstone ashlar. It has hipped capping with moulded edges, gadrooned corner balusters, oval margins for the inscriptions flanked by fan motifs at the corners, and two narrow vertical panels, each with gadrooned corners.
