Description
This building is a barn and adjoining cow house, located approximately 20 metres south-west of Norton House. It dates from the 18th century and was altered in the mid-19th century. The structure is made of squared and coursed sandstone rubble, topped with a corrugated metal roof. The barn has a rectangular plan and is aligned north-west to south-east, while the cow house is to the north-east and aligned north-east to south-west.
The barn features five bays with a central threshing floor and has three rows of loop vents, with a symmetrical arrangement of loops at the gable. There is a distinct break in the stonework, indicating that the roof has been raised, which is confirmed by the irregular and partially renewed collar-and-tie-beam trusses found inside. The cow house consists of three bays and has four square-headed openings.
