Description
Shell House is an early 18th-century building located on the west side of The Homend. It is constructed of painted brick and features a tiled roof with gabled ends. The house has a heavy moulded eaves cornice adorned with dentils. It stands two storeys tall, with an attic and cellar, and has three windows that are narrow sashes with modern glazing, flat brick arches, and one blocked window. A brick band runs between the floors.
Notably, there is a fine shell door hood supported by shaped brackets, leading to a fielded panel door set in a moulded doorcase to the right of centre. The building also has two pedimented dormers, each with dentilled cornices.
Inside, there is a room featuring 18th-century bolection-moulded panelling of unusual character, with fluted Ionic pilasters flanking the fireplace. The ceiling includes an oval panel at its centre. Shell House is part of a group with Nos 34 to 60 (even) and Nos 64 to 74 (even).
