Description
A group of four chest tombs is located approximately 0.5 meters south of the nave of the Church of St Mary. These tombs date from the 18th and 19th centuries and are made of sandstone ashlar with a rectangular plan, featuring mainly moulded plinths and capping.
The Gammond memorial, dated 1723, has plain pilasters that flank a plain inscription panel, with the initials of Gammond on the short sides, commemorating John Gammond who died in 1723 and his wife Anne who died in 1741. The William Gammond memorial from 1806 features corner balusters that flank a rectangular panel with an oval inset, adorned with florettes in the spandrels, although the inscription is largely defaced.
The John Gammond memorial from 1789 has balusters flanking a fielded inscription panel, commemorating John Gammond who died in 1789 and Jane Gammond who died in 1797. Lastly, the William Gammond memorial from 1771 also features balusters flanking a fielded inscription panel, commemorating William Gammond who died in 1771 and Mary Brown, who died in 1827, the daughter of William and Mary Gammond.
