Description

This is a scattered group of eight chest tombs located north of the Church of St Mary, dating from the 18th and 19th centuries. They are made of sandstone ashlar and have a rectangular plan, with most featuring moulded plinths and cappings.

One defaced tomb, approximately 0.75 meters north of the nave, is from the 18th century and has shaped end panels with traces of cartouches and floral motifs beside rectangular inscription panels. Another defaced tomb, about 7 meters north of the nave, also dates to the 18th century and features a shaped end panel with traces of a cartouche and an oval inscription panel.

A third defaced tomb, located approximately 1.5 meters north of the nave and dating from the mid to late 18th century, has an elaborately swagged shaped end panel with a cartouche and winged cherub heads, along with a defaced convex oval-shaped inscription panel that shows traces of a scroll motif.

Another defaced tomb, about 12 meters north of the chancel arch and from the late 18th century, has balusters flanking the inscription panel, urns in relief on the short sides, and traces of a scrolled surround to the inscription panel. A tomb located approximately 0.5 meters north of the chancel, dating from the 18th century, was formerly in a railed enclosure and features shaped end panels with an oval inset.

A tomb about 20 meters north of the chancel dates from the 17th to 18th century and has plain sides with a cross in relief on the capping. The Collins memorial, from the early 19th century, includes end balusters and fielded inscription panels. The Bennett memorial, also from the early 19th century, features a pyramidal upper surface to the capping, balusters flanking the inscription panel, and decorative floral ornament in the corners, commemorating Mary Bennett, who died in 1828.
